Prepare the Topping
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until combined. Pour the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
- Arrange the pecan halves and pineapple slices over the brown sugar mixture in the cake pan.
Make the Cake Batter
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Assemble and Bake
- Pour the cake batter over the pecan and pineapple topping in the cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate to reveal the pecan topping. Serve warm or at room temperature.
