Homemade Marinara Sauce

This homemade marinara sauce is a simple yet flavorful blend of tomatoes, garlic, and herbs, perfect for pasta or as a pizza base.

Ingredients
  

For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cans crushed tomatoes 28 oz each
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar to balance acidity
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For Garnish
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese grated

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  5. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with grated parmesan cheese.

Notes
