Chicken flautas are crispy rolled tortillas filled with seasoned shredded chicken, perfect for a delicious snack or main dish.

Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or Monterey Jack
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup sour cream for serving
For the Wrapping
  • 12 small corn tortillas
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
For the Garnish
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, shredded cheese, ground cumin, chili powder, and garlic powder. Mix well.
  2. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning if necessary. Set aside.
Assemble the Flautas
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Warm the corn tortillas for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.
  2. Place about 2 tablespoons of the chicken filling at one end of each tortilla and roll tightly. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.
Fry the Flautas
  1. In a large pot or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Carefully add the rolled flautas to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Remove toothpicks from the flautas if used.
  2. Serve hot, garnished with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and fresh cilantro. Offer sour cream on the side.

Notes
