Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and optionally sprinkle with chopped walnuts on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and serve, optionally dusting with powdered sugar if desired.
