Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup milk room temperature
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Filling
  • 3 cups apples peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
For the Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Method
 

Prepare the Cake Base
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Prepare the Filling
  1. In another bowl, toss the diced apples with brown sugar and cinnamon until well coated.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  2. Layer the apple mixture over the batter, followed by the remaining cake batter spread on top.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Mix until crumbly.
  2. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the cake batter in the baking dish.
Bake the Cake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
